Intel is paying $63.50 in cash per share for the maker of autonomous-driving car equipment to expand into new growth sector and divesify from its reliant on making computer processing units or CPUs. Previously Intel bought semiconductor FPGA chip maker Altera for $16 billion to also divesify into the internet of things sector one year ago.
I expect similar timeline and regulatory scrutiny on this transaction as Intel’s purchase of Altera which was completed within a 6 months timeframe. A 6 month timeframe is possible only if there is no FTC or EU 2nd request.
